~ How to Make Windblown Text ~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tutorial Difficulty: Easy
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1. Begin by opening / constructing a background. This can be as simple as using an existing picture of some kind or by creating a new image and making a textured background.

For this tutorial, I am going to be using a 386 x 102 pixel image that I made by playing around with varius PSP brushes & effects.

Here is some advice:

1. First of all, this text effect will work without a background, but it is much easier to see the finished product & prevents saving problems if one is used.

2. What colors you use generally depends on the style you are aiming for. However, my rule of thumb is this: shoot for opposites. If you use light text (recomended), then use a dark background for the best contrast. Granted, a lighter background on lighter text may not look all that bad if done correctly; but still... ;)

3. Don't make the background the same colour as the text. Common sense :P

2. Create a new raster layer. Name it something along the lines of "Text."

3. Next comes the tricky (or fun) part. Click on the Text Tool. Before you do anything else, be sure that the following presets are in order: (A) The text colour is set at white and (B) the text is created as "Floating"

4. Type in your message in the desired font. I'm going to say: "Drops of Honey" (Garamond)

A word about choosing fonts:

~ This tutorial has a slightly different effect depending on the type of font that you choose.

~ Thick fonts tend to produce a blurry smudge, an almost ghostly aurora.

~ Thinner fonts turn out much more streamlined, a bit more sharp

5. Drag the text to the left hand side of the image.

6. When you are finished, you'll see there are a lot of little ants surrounding the message. Don't worry - it's quite normal :) To fix the problem, simply press (Ctrl + D).

7. Now, duplicate the "Text" layer (Layers > Duplicate). You shouldn't really see any major change... yet. =P

8. Select the "Wind" feature from the the Effect menu (Effects > Distortion Effects > Wind). Adjust the presets to the following: Wind Direction (From Left); Wind Stregnth (100)

9. All that's left now is to merge down and save. WaLa! Windblown text :)
