Silhouettes are everywhere! You can find them in art; you can find them when you look at something that is backlit; you can find them aboriginal story telling... Look behind you on a sunny day. Can you say, "Hello shadow?" ;) In the petz world, they are a breeze to make, and a sinch to apply to all sorts of larger projects (like webbie layouts, quilt squares, etc.) >^^<

In this tutorial, I will show you how to make a basic silhouette ~ petz-style! Of course, once you know the bare bones of the process, you can always jazz it up & texturize your art with different kinds of brushes & effects to make all kinds of colourful variations =D

Difficulty: Easy
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Open the image of your petz that you want to work with
2. Click on the magic wand tool from the left-hand side bar. Make sure that your presets have the following settings: Feather (0), Tolerance (0). This is important because we want the silhouette to be pixel-tight.
3. Now, click anywhere in the white space surrounding your petz. A bunch of ants should appear. No need to worry, no bug spray is necessary here -- we WANT these ants :)
4. What just happened is that we grabbed the white space around your petz, which is great if you want to paint some kind of background in. But this tutorial is about creating a PETZ SILHOUETTE, so we need to grab the petz. To do this, simply invert your selection (Ctrl + shift + I).
5. Select the paint brush tool from the side bar.
6. As far as presets go, you don't have to worry too much about what your brush looks like, as long as it covers the whole image in the end. In this case, I'm going to use a square brush (size 84), though depending on the size of your picture, you may want to make this bigger or smaller depending on personal preference. Also for the purpose of this tutorial, I am going to make a black silhouette (#000000 on the colour wheel).
7. M'kay -- this is the fun part! Paint your petz, everybody! Just sweep your brush across 'em, covering every little bit of his/her pixel fur in colour!
This step literally took me about two or three seconds to do at the most.
Here is a shot about midway through the process.
(That square thing is what my brush looks like)
8. Are you ready for the ant-be-gone solution? Just "Select None" (Ctrl + D).
9. All that is left to do is to save or export -- You can save with or without transparency >^^< When you are finished, you'll have your very own custom petz silhouette! Congrats!
